IANAS Academies Meet to Discuss How They Can Better Support the SDGs

MAPBOX

The first of four regional workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held on 29-30 May in Mexico City. Kindly hosted by the Mexican Academy of Sciences,  17 national science academies in the Americas participated in lively and interactive sessions.

They were joined by representatives of the Global Young Academy (GYA) and ICSU Regional Office (ROLAC), and policymakers from the UN Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (ECLAC) and Mexican Government.  The academies developed an action plan setting out ways in which they could work together regionally through IANAS and at the national level to support the implementation of the SDGs.

This workshop will inform the IAP project "Improving Scientific Input into Global Policymaking" and - it is anticipated - the next IANAS Strategic Plan and AGM.  The second regional workshop - in partnership with AASSA - will take place on 13-14 August in Kuala Lumpur.  More to follow soon!
