Biography

Dr. Ricardo Rapallo is Food Security Officer at Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He is an Agricultural Engineer and he has a PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Since more than 10 years his research experience is focused on food security and rural development in Latin American and the European Union issues, with emphasis on the designing, implementing and monitoring food security and nutrition public policies and programmes.

He joined FAO in 2004 as consultant in the FAO Representation in Guatemala, where he supported the Special Program for Food Security (SPFS). Since 2009 he has worked in the Sub-regional Office of FAO for Central America as Associated Professional Officer of Policy Assistance. Shortly afterwards he started as Food Security Officer in the Management of Agricultural Development Economics Division (ESA) in Rome working in topics related to the right to food and food security good governance.

At present he is the Coordinator of the Hunger-Free Latin American and the Caribbean Initiative Support Project in the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and The Caribbean based on Chile.
